Cranberry Meadow Pond is another of the many small ponds that dot the highlands north of Montpelier and west of route 14. Its most notable feature is a small peninsula that juts out into the "neck" of the pond in its southeast corner. It appears that a large rock was deposited here near the shoreline many years ago -- perhaps by a glacier? -- and over time, dirt accumulated around it to form an island. Then, as the island grew, it became connected to the mainland. The peninsula is in the center of this image, with the edge of its large boulder on the right. You can also see on the water's surface that the weather was not exactly lovely. :)
